With the year winding down for spring sports, the collegiate careers of Furman’s seniors are also coming to an end. The Paladin decided to ask a few seniors about their time at Furman and their expectations for the last weeks of the season.

As graduation approaches, a sense of finality has begun to settle over the Class of 2014. Many things both mundane and important gain consequence when one realizes they may be the “last” of whatever they are.

The end of the school year encourages reflection on the memories made over the past two semesters. Furman’s Bonhomie yearbook seeks to capture these memories through pictures, profiles, and stories.

This annual event showcases the best Furman has to offer, but that positive reality should not prevent us from critically analyzing what we can do to make it better and clarify a vision for the role Furman Engaged! plays in the university’s educational mission.

Recently admitted prospective students and their families rode around campus on golf carts March 21 and 22 during Furman’s annual Accepted Students Days. Events included tours and meet-and-greets with other accepted students.

The article “Students Developing Mobile App to Consolidate University Resources,” published in the February 25 issue of The Paladin, incorrectly stated that the Furman Student Mobile App would allow students to access and navigate Outlook email.

In response to the university’s defunding of the men’s golf team, alumni and other donors have raised enough money to fund the program into the near future. The goal of the initiative is to raise enough money to endow the program, donating such a significant sum that the interest from those funds can finance the program indefinitely.

On March 25, as part of Furman’s Earth Week Celebration, the Environmental Action Group is hosting a Bicycle Parade for all students and members of the Greenville community.

On Feb. 7, Furman announced that the Board of Trustees had decided to discontinue Furman’s men’s golf program. Although the announcement itself was a surprise, this move is consistent with the university’s stated goal of reducing expenditures in many of Furman’s programs and departments.

For many Furman students, the specter of a high acceptance rate inspires irrational, unjustifiable fear. Although the acceptance rate cannot be officially calculated until after students have committed to Furman later this spring, the university received a lower number of applications than anticipated.
