The Paladin’s 2013-2014 sports editor, opinions editor, and editor-in-chief each share their parting thoughts concerning the university paper, the role and future of journalism, and reaching the end of their Furman careers.

By Trent McCann, Sports Editor Saturday, April 5 was one of the busiest days the Furman Paladins have had all year. The day had beautiful weather, and the campus was bustling with events, with the Paladins, both men and women, competing in seven different sports.

At the conclusion of the men’s lacrosse team’s non-conference schedule, the team is still in search of the program’s first-ever victory.

Furman announced on Tuesday that, thanks to donations from golf alumni, the men’s golf team will be able to continue operations, reversing the Board of Trustees’ decision to cancel the program for budgetary reasons.

On July 1, 2014, after the completion of the spring season, Furman University will disband the men’s golf team, ending a more than 80 year athletic program that has won 13 Southern Conference titles during its history.

Furman’s men’s lacrosse team has wasted no time seizing the opportunity to jump right into the fire. Last weekend, in the first varsity lacrosse game in Furman history, the Paladins fell 13-6 to Lehigh University, who are ranked 19th in the official NCAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
