In 2012, an organization known as GivingTuesday began its crusade to implement radical generosity. Radical generosity, otherwise known as "the concept that the suffering of others should be as intolerable to us as our own suffering," began in New York and now reaches all corners of the world. The principle of the organization is everyone has a little bit of themselves to give, and Furman has embraced this idea.
Today, Nov. 30, Furman will participate in its ninth GivingTuesday. Today Furman offers many facets in which alumni, parents, and students can donate a gift to over twenty-five areas, including The Paladin Newspaper, Heller Service Corps., Dins Dialogue, and even need-based scholarships among many more. Benefactors can also choose whether their donations are anonymous or public, or even if they would like to set up a monthly payment plan to continue GivingTuesday beyond its 24-hour stretch.
To incentivize generosity, the Alumni Association Board will donate an additional $5,000 to the area with the highest amount of donations, and the Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities will receive an additional $5,000 if 100 donations are made by the end of GivingTuesday.
Last year, Furman received $353,552 from donations alone, and the Furman Singers earned the bonus donation of $2,000 for ranking highest in donations.
If you, or someone you know, are feeling generous and are willing to donate to The Paladin Newspaper, please donate here. Any amount is appreciated.
