After a rocky start to the beginning of the season, the team made an impressive showing in their most recent match at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC this past weekend, finishing off the game with a 6-1 win.

At first singles Andrew Mellow finished off a close match against Winthrop’s Nadav Ruppin with a 6-4, 7-6 win. Alex Christ also closed a close match with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Dylan Comerford. Other singles victories also include Joel Cook with a 6-2, 6-4 win; Robbie Aru with a 6-4, 6-4 win; and Tyler Droll with a 6-0, 6-0 shut out.

The Paladins also came out strong in the doubles competition. At second doubles, Andrew Mellow and Jacob Behal managed an 8-6 victory over Winthrop’s strong pair. Nate Collins and Watson George also defeated Winthrop’s third doubles team in a close match, scoring 9-8 to win the doubles competition for the Paladins.

Andrew Mellow, who carried two strong wins in the Winthrop Match, was named player of the week for his matches played in the week of Feb. 27 through March 4.

Prior the Winthrop match, the Paladins succumbed to losses at South Carolina and Georgia. Before those two matches, however, the Paladins raked in two strong wins. The first was a 4-1 victory against Navy at home Feb. 18. And on Feb. 21, the Paladins traveled to Clinton, SC where they came in with a 6-1 win over Presbyterian College.

The Paladins next take on Costal Carolina at home on March 13, 2012 followed by away matches a Samford University on March 16 and then at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on March 18.
