Acclaimed Harvard physicist Lisa Randall will address Furman students April 10 to kick off Furman Engaged!, the university’s annual celebration of liberal arts research and the work students invest into answering questions within their respective academic disciplines.

A fuzzy line lies between reality and fiction. Furman’s new Film Club is set to begin filming a new reality show, and though the production will not follow the genre format typical of reality shows, the content, which originated from stories gathered from Furman students last semester, will illuminate student’s lives — with some creative license — going beyond the student face presented at chapter meetings, classes, organization meetings, sports, and other extracurriculars.

We’re all familiar with Cherrydale Cinemas just down the road, with its overpriced and oily popcorn, blockbusters, and sticky floors. But just imagine a Coffee Underground of the cinema world. Wouldn’t that be lovely?

At the annual conference for Keeping Sweets Sacred (KISS) today, Necco’s candy conversation hearts yelled out in protest against the “I Love Local” DIY movement that promotes DIY Valentines, particularly homemade candy hearts.

In his recent update on the status of budget discussion, Dean of Faculty John Beckford outlined the university’s plan to reduce the number of full-time faculty by relying on retirements and resignations, and initial reactions suggest that faculty are supportive of the plan, though many said it still leaves many questions unanswered.
