The 2014 Blue Shoes Mile took their positions before the race Saturday night. The meet, up to that point, had featured many record-breaking performances, but everyone knew the main event had yet to come.

Furman’s runners are poised for a memorable outdoor season as they come off an impressive performance at the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship.

Although Furman’s Southern Conference Championship in football is behind us, one player is continuing to enjoy football success as the Paladins’ very own Dakota Dozier impresses scouts on his way to the NFL. Dozier, a senior offensive lineman, garnered FCS First Team All-American honors this past season and has continued to impress in his off-the-field workouts since the formal season has ended.

After winning the school’s first Southern Conference Championship in seven years, Furman’s football program has continued getting better with talented acquisitions on signing day. Twenty-two players have officially signed with the Paladins, including eight skill position players.

With the conclusion of the college football season, the best upperclassmen in the country have begun their journey to the NFL draft. A series of interviews, workouts, and tests await these players, but in the meantime, football fans can speculate on who is going where. This week I’ve compiled a mock draft for the first round of the upcoming NFL draft.

When one thinks of Furman athletics, soccer greats like Clint Dempsey, Ricardo Clark, and Walker Zimmerman usually come to mind. But in the coming years, the soccer legends may have to share the spotlight with a surging cross country team, which under new direction has the potential to gain national prominence.

The college football season’s heading into week nine, and it’s an ideal time to assess the title chances of the top five teams in the Bowl Championship Series.

Heading into week five of the college football season, the Heisman race is starting to shape up, with some early favorites falling out of favor and some dark horses finding themselves amongst the leaders. Here are my current top five favorites, in order, to win the Heisman award as of week four.

Last season Stephanie Devita found herself in prestigious company, becoming only the fourth player to win Southern Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season, and this year she’s only looking to improve on that success.
