By now, I hope everybody’s heard about the Poinsett Project. If those new Office365 emails have not been sorted out for you yet, here’s a basic introduction: headed up by the Poinsett Corridor Revitalization Coalition (PCRC), Furman is sponsoring a day of service on April 11 with an ambitious goal of involving 1,000 students.

After months of deliberation beginning last spring, the Steering Committee has released Furman’s newest strategic plan, Vision 2020. The plan lays out the university’s objectives for the next decade.

I greatly value travel. It allows us to experience new things, broaden our horizons, and begin to understand people unlike ourselves. It teaches us that the world is not all about us and that, in fact, we are far from being at the center of the universe.

The Paladins finally had their winning streak broken recently, but they are far from falling on hard times.

Last Thursday marked the annual Local & Organic Day for the dining hall, and in my opinion, it was a great success. The DH strives to offer many local and organic foods throughout the year, and they usually are accompanied by an identifying label. Last Thursday, I got to try many dishes that were new to me, all the while knowing that I was doing the environment a favor.

It looks to be a promising season for the 2011 Furman Men’s Soccer Team. Ranked in College Soccer News’s Preseason Top 30, the Paladins will battle tough teams from the get-go, hosting the Duke Blue Devils August 29 at 7 p.m. for their home opener. But if last season was any indicator as to the success of this year’s team, things are looking up.
