Brigadoon is a show which encapsulates the love story of a young boy and girl who meet at very different points in their lives and struggle to decide whether or not their love is worth changing their whole lives.

The art department has been rounding up its spring semester by presenting senior art exhibits in order to showcase their hard work and dedication these last four years. Brigid Morrissey and Jenny Cook are two whose pieces will be seen and both represent cultural as well as personal struggles.

The Furman Band premiered their final performance for the year with the presentation of their spring concert this past Friday. Both the Symphonic and Wind Ensembles performed pieces by the world famous composer David Maslanka.

The Furman Pauper Players premiered their latest show, “Les Misérables,” this past weekend. The musical has captivated the world with its balance between the musical elements and an emotionally-driven plot, perhaps even more so since the British film version debuted Christmas 2012.

It’s not often that the Human Resources Department starts the newest trend on Furman’s campus. Tired of sitting all day behind desks, several members of the department have adopted the stand-up desk, a contraption that attaches to a desk and raises the computer so one can type, answer the phone, take notes, or perform various other tasks, all while standing up.

In 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster dumped an estimated 4.9 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, causing significant environmental damage that persists to this day. A new art exhibit showing at Furman attempts to make sense of the devastation.

While some say that video games are a root cause of violence in our society, junior computer science major Tyler Atwell is out to prove them wrong. Atwell has been playing video games since the time he could read, starting with Pac-Man for the original Game Boy. Years later as a college student, Atwell is able to earn money by playing professionally. But unlike most professional gamers, he has chosen to anonymously donate the money he makes to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

This past weekend, senior Grace Bernardo and freshman Sam Nelson starred in the student-directed play “Gruesome Playground Injuries” by Rajiv Joseph, which takes the audience through the lives of Kayleen and Doug, two friends who share a mutual love for one another.
