This semester, EcoReps launched a partnership with OrganiCup to provide free menstrual cups to college students. OrganiCup is a company that produces menstrual cups in an effort to make periods more sustainable across the world. Normally, cups cost $28, but, through their CampusCup program, they are teaming up with college campuses to give them away for free.

OrganiCup was founded with sustainability in mind; all of their packaging is recyclable, and their mission is to reduce period waste. According to their website, an individual can use up to 11,000 single-use period products in their lifetime, each of which can take up to 500 years to degrade.

The OrganiCup website boasts each cup prevents 528 pads and tampons from being thrown away and creates 99.9% less waste with each period.

EcoRep member Calla Pederson says that she is excited about Furman’s partnership with OrganiCup. “It’s a really good thing, since COVID makes it hard to be sustainable in other areas of life,” she says. “This is something we can do right now.”

The cups come in three different sizes to accommodate different needs and are made from silicone to promote durability and decrease environmental impact. OrganiCup also sells cleaning wipes and wash to ensure the cups stay hygienic.

Furman students had until Mar. 21 to sign up to receive a free menstrual cup from OrganiCup, and the several hundred students who did will receive an email when they are available for pickup from the Shi Institute. However, if anyone missed the deadline and wants an OrganiCup, you can use the code FURMAN at organicup.com to get 20% off your order.

Furman staff and alumni are invited to utilize the code as well.
