Track & Field Places Four Freshmen on All-Southern Conference Team

Members of the Paladin Track & Field team have certainly proved themselves over the past few weeks. Feb. 23-24th in Birmingham, AL featured the Southern Conference Indoor Championship, where the Paladins had four freshmen named to the All-SoCon Team. Overall, the Paladins placed seventh in the men’s meet and eighth in the women’s tournament.

William Ivey, who placed fourth in the 800m, was one of the Paladins that earned all-freshman team status, along with fellow teammate Tripp Hurt, who took fifth place in the mile. Additionally, Sinead Haughey and Danielle Ebzery both claimed spots on the all-freshman team for the women.

Ivey commented, “I was very happy to receive the honor of being named All-Freshman, but considering there were only three other freshmen in the race and three freshmen are named to the All-Freshman team, it was not a surprise.”

“My goal for this year, as it was for indoor, is to make All-Conference, which I believe I can do with a good race at Outdoor Conference.”

The seniors also represented the team well, with Erin Barker placed third in the mile with a time of 4:54.74 and Brooke Mosteller placing fifth in the 5,000m with a time of 17:18.51. Lee Gilmer took the highest finish in all of the events for the Paladins with a second place finish in the mile.

Over the break on March 3, Erin Barker and Chris Caldwell represented the Paladins in Blacksburg, VA in the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier. Barker placed fifth in the mile and Caldwell second in the 5,000m.

Furman will lead off its outdoor season March 16-17 at the 49ers Classic featured in Charlotte, NC.
