Furman’s first home soccer game of the season was a fantastic continuation of what has already been an exciting season. After a hard fought 4-3 win against Xavier to start the season and a strong, although unsuccessful, effort against nationally ranked Akron, the Paladins returned home to face College of Charleston.

Last season Stephanie Devita found herself in prestigious company, becoming only the fourth player to win Southern Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season, and this year she’s only looking to improve on that success. The Paladin caught up with her to see what her goals are for this upcoming season and to ask her about what led to her love for the beautiful game.

Last Wednesday, Noah Guthrie, a bluesy-pop singer-songwriter and YouTube star, performed in the Trone Center courtyard. While Guthrie may be an unknown name to some, the 18-year-old is well on his way to becoming a household name with popular YouTube hits like his cover of LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It.”

The Peter Wexler Digital Museum Gallery opening, an invitation-only event held on Sept. 10 in the Thomas Roe Art Building, was nothing if not a gala. The event was held in honor of Peter Wexler, a set designer and conceptual artist who has worked on numerous Broadway musicals and operas.

It was well-accepted when it started, but the First Year Seminar Program, which has been in place for five years and has received mixed reviews from faculty and students, is up for a review that could lead to significant changes by the next academic year.

In just a couple weeks, Furman University’s Pauper Players will be performing their first production of the year — “Company” — a musical comedy that addresses one man’s attempts to come to terms with his own loneliness in light of the complexities of his friends’ relationships.

The 1975, an indie/alternative band from Manchester, England, has released their first full-length album, and it doesn’t fail to satisfy. Their self-titled debut displays a wide range of styles across its tracks and has sounds reminiscent of Vampire Weekend, The Neighborhood, Cobra Starship, and San Cisco.

Many Furman soccer fans would consider last year’s Men’s soccer season a disappointment after a very talented team failed to make the NCAA tournament field. Part of the reason the team fell short was it’s relatively weak schedule and loss to Wofford in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference playoffs.
